About Emily

Emily is a teenager who learned to crochet at 8, and kindled her love to crochet and other crafts at 12. As soon as she figured out how fun crochet can be, she immediately began plotting about opening a business. After a year of crocheting different items that could be sold at her shops, she decided she was ready to start her own business.

Preparation

It is not a simple thing to open a business. It requires much research and preparation, especially when opening the business is just one other thing to do among many of the tasks you already have on your plate. Depending on the business there’s many different components of your business. In my case – a handmade shop – I had to create a variety of items, and make a large inventory. This was just the first step, because then I had to build the website. I had to:

  • Take pictures of the items and add them to the website
  • Decorate the rest of the website like the home page and the About Me page! Haha 🙂
  • Set up the checkout page and decide how to ship items, take payments, and more.

After all of these steps, my website would finally be finished and I could have a grand opening!

Opening a Business

How do you decide to open a business? Are you going on a walk one day and decide you want to open a shop and sell crochet items? For me, it came more gradually. When I was younger I had a friend who opened an Etsy shop, and upon hearing this, I was ecstatic. I had never thought about opening a shop, but it was a good idea! The next question was what would I sell at my shop? The answer did not come immediately. I pondered on what I might sell that people would want, and did not come up with anything until I realized that I loved crochet. I had known how to crochet before the age of 12, but not very well – just the very basics. When I was 12, I met others who also crocheted, and I realized that there was much more to crochet than what it might have seemed like originally. As I started crocheting a large variety of different items, I thought that soon I would be ready to open a shop. The process of opening a shop was long, but eventually, Crystal Sakura Handmade Creations was complete!!!

Crystal Sakura

Have you ever looked at “Crystal Sakura” and said to yourself “that is an unusual name for a Crochet/Handmade business”? Have you wondered why someone who sells yarn crafts would call themselves Crystal Sakura? In the beginning, I had many different name ideas, and not many of them related to crochet. I prefer names that sound pretty, and are pleasing to hear and write. I do not mind if the names do not directly correlate to what I am selling, as long as I personally like how the name sounds. I had many of these names, but when choosing my website, many of the names I had in mind had already been bought. The only one that had not been bought was ‘CrystalSakura.com’, and so that is how I decided to name my business Crystal Sakura.
